The meaning of no

one semester
spent between modern lines
and those crafted by
a handyman poet
each careful sentence fitted and true
planed down just so
sanded smooth

when i work with my hands
and hold each nail
pinched to a point
there is the awareness of the watchful eye
ready with a reference and a quick stike
square and exact

a maker's mark
an artist's studio
and, now, a bare 3rd finger
wandering near water
